I remember where I was when he declared his intention to run, I was rounding up my postgraduate in Oxford surrounded by brilliant minds who hastily concluded he could never win. I have to add I agreed with them at the time because I thought the powers that be would never allow it but to all of our dismay and my pleasant surprise, he won not only once but twice.
This is not to rehearse what happened but to put it in ink my appreciation and admiration of what this couple have achieved for my kind. Highly educated cutting against the widely held perception of poorly educated African Americans, classy cutting against the view of African Americans being Gettho, pursuing peace with restraints cutting against the view of violence in my race, trying to bring decency to the health of the poor, something no previous president has been able to do, looking after all constituencies including the LGBT community, something that has touched a Raw nerve among my people, bringing class and accessibility to the office of the First Lady.
I want to say thank you to these two for giving my children an example of what is possible if we try irrespective of oppositions. Giving an example of how true Christianity is inclusive even when we don't support the acts. Reminding me of those Jesus chose to hang out with. (Thieves to Prostitutes).
Very soon, they will be gone from the White House but I will always remember a couple that gave me a glimmer of hope for a truly hopeless humanity and proved that all things are possible if God is involved.
Very soon a new president will be sworn in and America will go back to another tenure but I choose to use this time to thank this couple who will live in my heart forever. As for the country, I remember a Bob Marley song, many more will have to suffer, many more will have to die , don't ask me why.........
