I want to start by saying I do not support the murderings, the imprisonrnents and the toture carried out on many individuals that are well documented. The Cuban regime was tainted by these. My main focus is yet another blatant hypocrisy on the part of most of the West Especially the governments that clearly support oppressive regimes across the Middle East and even sell them arms.
America murdered millions of Vietnamese in the 60s but we hardly talk about it, they murdered hundreds of thousands in the regime change in Iraq, hundreds of thousands more in regime change in Libya and now Syria and yet Tony Blair is paid humongous fees to talk to people but Fidel was tryrant?
George Bush pursued one of the most costly and pointless wars in the history of the world but his house faces a beach and may soon become a hero in a trumps presidency. The West, a handful of countries determine the destinies of the world and everyone Keeps quiet like nothing is going on?
3000 people died in 9/11 and yet millions were killed in return and the world applauds? Even when many of these were innocent?
Fidel outsted an American stooge and hence was faced by a barrage of attacks from America in order to depose him. In a regime like that, try practising democracy. He did what he had to in order to survive. There are documented 3000 attacks on his life including exploding cigars and a direct attack on the bay of pigs. Try being a civil leader under those conditions.
I remember Cuban doctors that came to the rescue in Africa while all these other developed countries ignored us. I remember the Athletes that came to train us and raised up the standards. I remember the Cuba army that defeated the South African apartheid army, I remember the Cuba that stood against a developed nation and did not bulk. A Cuba that survived a 50 year trade embargo by the US.
Every country must have the right to navigate their destiny without interference from outside and the west will not allow that.
I celebrate Fidel for giving us a legacy that it's possible to chat your own cause without being intimidated and who lived and died by what he believed. That is the Fidel I celebrate.
In order to end on a humorous level, America is criticising Cuba for being oppressive whilst they maintain a kangaroo detention camp on Guantanamo Bay. Wake up people, Trump is the president elect. Ha ha!
